Thread Algae

Another month down and it is really filling in. I have had some recent shrimp death. I attributed it to over gassing as I bumped my co2 just a bit as usual. I have also had thread algea appear. There are still quite a few Amanos from what I can tell, 15-20 maybe. I've been busy so I cut ferts down as I haven't done water change. Filters were cleaned two weeks ago and my overflow was thoroughly cleaned as well. I'll get a water change in this evening and spot treat with excel to see if I can knock it out. I could lift my light but it seems the substrate has dimmed down quite a bit from over growth. My guess is a good trim, some algae removal with excel, and a water change will do the trick. I won't touch co2 or light and we will see if that does the trick.

Looks good, but a couple of questions about the basics:

How high is your light from surface and substrate?

Do know what par is?

Can you describe lights and how long they are on?

Thanks for the compliments guys, I really appreciate the feedback.

The lights are 2) 36" aquaticlife dual lamp t5 ho with 1) roseate bulb and 1) 6000k in each. They are 14" above the surface currently but are adjusted up or down from time to time. Currently running 9 hrs a day but thinking of backing it down if this thread algae wasn't resolved by trim and water changes.

PAR is not measured as I haven't coughrd up that money yet. I try to budget my money on this hobby. I enjoy many other hobbies as well. I watch the plants and try to adjust to their needs.

Just an update on the tank. I increased amount of light by dropping fixture to 12" above surface and decreased the duration to 8 hours. I have gotten back on track with my water changes and have increased PO4 slightly. Hair algea has been reduced but not eliminated, however new gsa on glass and anubias has come to a halt. I am still working on the removal of the old GSA on the anubias, and Tom's method of PO4 directly on the leaves is working well. This is something I have been doing every water change and I see results every week. I have also tackled the BBA and BSA. Mostly by removal of the rocks and scrubbing with brass wire brush. Lower level rocks are scrubbed in the tank. Since I had quite a few out, I did a small rescape. Here is a Before

After

Thanks guys.

Yea I have thought about doing that for some time. Do they sell black PVC? Something I can just swap in and not worry about paint wearing off?

Krylon Fusion is supposed to be safe to use in aquariums and it is specifically to be used on plastics without having to sand the piece first.

This is what I wanted to do with my 30G tall tank, unfortunately the tank just isn't long enough to make the slope look natural at all. You definitely pulled it off. Are those harlequin or rasbora espei?
