Hello,

I am looking for a Fabco NV-55 needle valve. I can get one for $26 shipped new but am looking around too see if I can get a better deal. I also have a bucket of java fern if you want to trade. Some is big (8" leaves), tank has snails and some algae though. There is some anubis nana (I think that is what it is) in there too.

Daniel.

Hey everyone,
My name is Mike Russell and I work for Fabco-Air.
I checked the forum rules and don't see anything against posting on Fabco's behalf. If I am mistaken, please accept my apologies.

One of my responsibilities is managing the Fabco web store, and I noticed a lot of our traffic is from the aquaculture community.
As a customer appreciation sort of thing, I wanted to hand out a coupon code for 10% off the NV-55. If this goes over well, I'll try to keep them coming. Let me know what other products you are all interested in and I will see what I can do on them.

Code is : NV-55-10 (enter during checkout)
Valid for 3 days, no limit. Feel free to pass it around.

Hey Mike,

I currently use and like the NV55. The only thing I would like to see with it is, if it were available with NPT threads. 10-32 wouldn't put up with much stress also, NPT threads would make it easier to attach to a solenoid or regulator. If I were available with NPT threads, I would buy one tomorrow.

Regards,

Henry

How do you attach it now? With an adapter of some sort?

I talked to one of our engineers, and he said that we might be able to squeeze a 1/16 NPT on the bottom cap, but not the side. There just isn't enough material.
Even if it were possible, until we could get the quantity to justify running a batch with those specifications, it would be a special modification per order. That would probably push the cost too high.

Hose barbs with 10-32 threads. It isn't attached directly to the regulator or solenoid. The NV55 is attached to the side of the stand and hose is run to the solenoid on one side and hose attaches it to a CO2 diffuser on the other side. It would be preferable to have an 1/8" NPT connection on both sides or at least the output of the NV55 so it could be attached directly to the solenoid or regulator.

According to the engineers it should be possible to tap the bottom of the NV-55 with an NPT port, but the side would have to stay 10-32. With a needle valve, flow direction shouldn't matter. Would it work in your design to mount it using the bottom port if it were NPT?
The first few "trial" pieces will be expensive ($12 - $15 extra) due to the fact they will have to be re-tapped by hand, but if interest is high and the design works out, we can start running batches with this configuration and get the cost down.
