Hey just trying to decide whether I should buy one of these lights, the price is great.

-some info on the tank: its a 50 gallon, height is 20 inches, and the lights will sit on top of the tank with the legs provided.

-the difference between the lights listed is the bulbs they come with, just wondering what bulb set up is preferred for plants and if these lights are any good

-I'm looking for medium-high light and would these lights require a ballast?

i use the 48" version on a 55 and 75, they work fine. i use the pink ones just for veiwing the tank as they really bring out the reds in fish and plants. The 48" version has 2 switches each operate 2 lites with a remote ballast. The leds are just a plug though. Personaly though id hang them above the tank as the legs they come with (really just stabilizers) keeps them rite on the tank tops and being HOs it seems just a bit to brite at the top of the tank. Probably gonna get a better spread that way anyways. Use the one with 2 6500k if your only getting the 36" model.
edit: sorry i see now your lookign at the dual bulb, i have the quad thats why 2 switches.

Expect to get what you pay for. Search around and form your own impression. These seem to be poorly built, based on anecdotal information from enthusiasts that posted their reviews (some in You Tube) after they tried these.
