I have a few weeks till I get some fish for a specific display so I am going to use some extra weeds I have to make some scapes that break the rules of various styles with appropriate hardscape materials.
One of which is using wood in place of rock for iwagumi style layouts.
HC , gloss, Starourgyne all grow in fast and I have enough to fill up the 70 Gal ADA like tank I have.
Well, is a couple of weeks anyway.
I'll likely use the white dolomite sand I have so I do not need to waste ADA As or anything.
No fish in the tank.........so I can gas the snot out of the tank for nice growth appearences.
Lighting is nice(TEk T5's).........I'll switch to LED's sometime this year or next little by little, who knows.......
I could NOT rationalize ANY GOOD REASON not to use wood for the rock replacement, manzy burls are really more rock like than wood like in appearance.
I have some real nice Cypress block stumps that are castle like, but I' not happy with them, I can do a few layouts and show for illustration with them.
I have a few Q tanks that I could take a few fish and add them for a photo shoot also.
The tank will eventually house some Tangy cichlids. I have not found the right rocks that are aesthetic and provide ample hiding space.
Prairie dog clay fired custom caves under the sediment is one idea, I have some nice off white clay and can do that.
This would free up the above sediment practical side and I could go mostly for aesthetics,.
Still..for me.............I realyl prefer that the natural scape itself lend itself to both good home for the livestock as well as an aesthetic value that is also high.
Yes, I want it both.
But.........in the meantime, I will keep trying a few temp ideas I have.
