Why do some remove the relief valve of regulators?

I've noticed that some members remove the relief valve that comes with regulators and just block the opening by placing a bolt. I have no clue why someone would do that.

Isn't that valve there for a reason? I figure, yet cannot affirm, it may be there for the safety of the equipment.

I would agree with you the relief valve is there for safety. I have not heard of anyone removing them! :D

You can remove them in some instances (e.g. HPT500, HPS 500, BHT270, BHT500, BST500, SGT500, SGS500) without a compromise in safety. Relief valve are optional in these cases and only protect downstream equipment, etc. No need in our application; unless you are worried about blowing out your Ideal Valve, which is rated at 3000+ psi...lol

Don't forget these units are used in lab and hospital applications that utilize very sensitive equipment.

That said, you can leave them on, but whether you take them off or leave them on has little affect on function. ;)
