Hi,

I am using ECO Complete planted Substrate in my aquarium and it's now about a year old. I am just wandering do you advice replacing the substrate at all and if so when.

I have 17 magneficent discus in my 110 gallon planted tank and I have had some fungus related problem in the recent past. This I think can be a combined effect of fish waste and uneaten food because all other attributes are 100% perfect in regard to maintenance of this tank. I just can't siphon the fish waste out during the water change (because the substrate itself also come out). Also some of the food at times goes with in the plants and this is a problem in a species discus tank.

Please advice :) .

Cheers,
Bis

EC is inert hard sediment.

So it never needs replacing, however, it can be cleaned and deep vac'ed every 1-2 years or so.

Particularly when you have a high bioload like discus.

I'd deep vac 1/3 of the tank and replant and rescape each section every week or two.

Do not try and do it all in one go, do little bit each week.
