If I interpret Tom's instructions correctly, you make frequent water changes at the onset (I have ADA AS), and after a while you start fertilizing at a reduced rate than EI. It's the latter part that I am not sure about, do I need to wait for the tank to establish a bit or can I start fertilizing from the get go?

Likely does not matter much, but you can start anytime from day one.
    I do.
