Hi,
My personal preference is to use a filter rated at 10X the tank volume per hour turnover or the nearest to that I can afford. This means a filter rated at or near 290 GPH.
Have you seen this one: Reaction 4-Stage Canister Filters w/ UV.
The EFU-45 FILTER model pumps 290 gph which is 10 times your tank volume. I don't have it but I think that this is the one I will choose for my 30 gallon soon to be tank !
I also like the fact that it comes with UV and it cost $150 at petsolutions.
