The leaves on my sword plant apear to be rotting as fast as they grow.

I have a soil substraight that is less than 4 months old, on the bottom I sprinkled osmocote, Murite of Potash and Dolomite, I then covered that with a soil and clay mixture which is about 1 part clay to 8 to 9 parts soil.

It's a 125G tank with easly 2500GPH of flow between the overflow, canister filter and 3 x Koralia 425s.

Lightihg is 2 x 54w T5HO lights on for 9 hours and I also have 2 x 39w T5HO and 1 x 96w AHS PC lights for 1 hour. I'm sure I have 30ppm of CO2 and well

I EI dose using a dosing pumps everyday

KNO3 - everyday 6 ppm
KH2PO4 - everyday 0.8 ppm (I know it's a little high, I noticed that today when I measured how much the pump was dosing. I lowered it to 0.5 ppm now)
CSM+B (Fe) - everyday .25ppm

Here are some pics of what the plant looks like

All the other plants in this tank a great, I have little to no algea

I have the same plant in another tank with an inert substraight, no root tabs, low light, low CO2 and underdosing EI and it's growing like a weed.

Thank you

I'd cut the dosing back about 1/3rd. Swords tend to take awhile to get the root system established, the soil might have an issue for it vs the plain sand.

Tom,

I also read they prefer loose substraight as well. It's been in the tank since mid september and not doing better. I reduced the dosing as you recommended. I'll give it another 4 to 6 weeks. Do you know what else can provide the same mass as the sword plant given my tank specs?

Thank you,

Mike

You can uproot is and deep vac that area, then replant with plain sand.

the most important thing is light which is the main thing needed for healthy growth of the plant. you must ensure that5 your plant gets good sunlight to grow....
