hi

my water seems a bit cloudy. When i compare pictures of peoples tanks, and pictures i take of my own tank, there's a distinct difference. My water seems to have a cloudy tint to it.
Of course this is the same "live".
Can it be my background? I just have a black plastic binliner covering the backwall of the tank. Can that have an effect?

Any other ideas..... It doesn't seem to be like it's a lot of particles in the water... just a haziness to it.

have you ruled out green water? put a little water in a white container. also some driftwood causes slightly cloudy water for a short time. regards,cornhusker :) :)

There are a few things that could be due to that you can take a look at, first of all is it a new tank? Thats the first possible source, often refered to as "new tank syndrom"... Or did you recently clean the filter? if cleaned to well and all the bacteria was killed off you will often see a haze in the water until it builds back up.
Also might take a look at what your doseing.... In my tank when I was doseing Flourish Iron daily..... It caused a pretty bad haze to the water.... I have also read of others having the same problem on APC... When I stopped adding extra Iron to my tank the haze went away with in a day... just a few Ideas...

I have the same problem. I don't dose iron nor is the tank still cycling. I'm leaning towards a slit bit of greenwater. I had a bout of greenwater which I used a uv on. I thought I got it all but I guess its possible I need to hook it back on.

I had the same issue, but did not realize it.

I recently switched to a canister filter from my HOB filter and added a UV light. I went to check the tank late the next day and damn did the water look crystal. I doubt the canister made much difference, so it must have been the UV.

I tend to view it as low O2. Something could be done to help improve the tank if it's not "new".

A diatom is also a nice item for polishing or a UV(Check ebay, 30$ or so).
