Hi,

In yme's tank log in this section, Tom indicated he likes the VorTech pumps. I seek some advice on how to size VorTech pump for my 90gal.

VorTech MP10? (200-1575gph, rated for 50gal tank)
VorTech MP20? (500-2000gph, rated for 70gal tank)
VorTech MP40? (100-3000gph, rated for 500gal tank; probably too powerful for a 90gal)

In Tom's comments he indicated he uses/used MP10 in his 120gal or 60gal cube, and MP40 in his 180gal. But I figured to ask other folk to see what they think about the MP10/20/40. I like that the flow rate is adjustable.

I also see that Hydor Koralia pumps are tres cheaper. The Koralia also have a head that can be pointed where you want it. I am not opposed to getting a VorTech.

Any merits on VorTech vs. Koralia? (one has adjustable flow, the other has adjustable direction)

And same question for Koralia, how to size for my 90gal?

Koralia:
[HASHTAG]#750[/HASHTAG] (750 gph, rated for up to 90gal)
[HASHTAG]#1050[/HASHTAG] (1050 gph, rated for up to 125 gal)
[HASHTAG]#1400[/HASHTAG] (1400 gph, rated for up to 160 gal)
5 Magnum (1650 gph)
6 Magnum (2200 gph)

It seems I'm getting around to doing what I should already know from Tom and others. Increase CO2, and increase flow!

definately go for the vortech. I have both, but the koralia is so BIG.. just a no go for me.

in terms of capacity, I have the mp20 at 25% capacity or so in my 90 gallon. 100% will blow away and almost uproot the stems.

greets,

yme

the MP40 is the same prop aand driver, i think, as the MP20 and the controller is different. so you could just upgrade later on.

OTOH, you can get one or two Koralias,or knock offs, to experiment with first for less cost. people often seem to have a couple lying around soyou might get one on the cheap.

you probably wont beat the vortec units for cool factor though.

I have the MP40 in my 180, but it's running at the lowest setting. Definately too big for a 90G.

A 10 might be fine for a 90 Gal, check glass thinkness though.
20 might be what you can use. If the glass is 1/2" or more, use the 20, the 10 will just bare hang on.

This is the biggest issue for me, I've had a few fall off with the poor fish gasping after I came home later due to low O2.
I suppose I could glue the dry side on........but heck......that's not the point.

Maxi jet modified with a plastic screen and a sure flow kit works very well also.
