Vacuuming substrate during weekly water change?

I see a lot of people have automatic water changers on their tanks. Obviously they cannot vacuum the substrate with those systems. I have been doing my weekly 50% EI water changes vacuuming the gravel as I go. I just added some discus to the tank this week. During my weekly maintenance on Friday and thus-forward do I continue with the vacuuming? My plants haven't quite filled in all of the floor yet, but are spreading nicely.

any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Basically you're vacuuming out food for your plants. I will only vacuum after uprooting. The trick is not to let it get so bad that the substrate clogs or that it gives a lot of debris when uprooting plants. Definately not a weekly job.

Looks like you have to buy some Discus now:) I will lightly vac out the mulm if it gets mess or the tank has not had that for a few months.
I like to keep the sediment fluffy a bit, not mashed and compacted down.

Well I don't have discus either.....unsure WHO you mean now....

Sorry, you pointed me to a thread from one you started back in '08 and you were asking about them. I guess I just assumed... You know what happens when people assume...
