    Hello Aquascapers,

I have a 75g planted with a Monte Carlo Carpet & Seiryu stone which I dose EI and WC 50% weekly.
Over time, Aquasoil slowly disintegrates becoming mulm.

My question is it better to light vacuum weekly followed by a 50% WC?

or is it better to moderately vacuum once you see some build up that might clog your substrate, then followed by 75% WC ?

The concern here is organic waste and how it affects fishes.

    Hi,
For one, the mulm is no good, it do store all the bacterium inside. I rather you use to fertilize your garden plants.
over time substrate will fail I dont even think of bothering to remove it but layer new soil on top of it.
and put the diatomaceous earth to work with the existing setup. The fish don't bother with mulm it is when the plants start dying then you have bigger things and issues because that will cause fish to die.

    Hi,
Never but I do some times only cause my tank very established.
    Sorry Let me clarify.
Last time I use to do this until I realize that the bacteria for propagation of plant lives deep inside these recess of the soil. So it is when you remove these mulm you make sure that you add back into it the bacteria that propagate fast.
