What do UV sterilizers do and are they worth using on a planted tank?

Hi,

A UV-sterilizer is a device that destroys the DNA of living cells via the use of ultraviolet radiation, in our case any way UVC. :gw

As to whether UV-sterilizers are worth it for planted tanks, that is the debate. :)

My own opinion is four hours two or three days a week of an appropriately sized device is reasonable maintenance. For specific problems, more intense use is appropriate.

In my situation I am a bit more dependent since I have quite a few tanks on a closed loops. I also use it in closed loop aquaculture.

I hope this helps. Questions work anywhere, though occasionally we get confused.
