Hey guys,
I noticed and read some of the talk on another thread and thought i would ask the question, of How to go about setting up a proper substrate using enhancers such as peat.
I have read plenty of stickies on substrates as well, but was after a technique for using natural substrates like peat and laterite.
I like to grow native aquatics although not entirely happy with the growth of some species, the 2 weakest things about my set-up is my substrate. I originally had just a black gravel then when i got more into plants i put ada ammazonia 2 over the top. I'm pretty sure now that that's wrong (btw feel free to set me straight/confirm anything). Secondly is hard water (GH)
My plan is to rectify this by re-doing the substrate first. I'm not sure what combinations to use between, ADA Ammazonia, laterite and peat. I know that peat should be on the bottom ie. first layer? Whats best to go about this and how to cap this to stop leaching or clouding in the tank? I want to finish with Ammazonia for looks and it's benefits although it will have fish in there quite soon afterwards so maybe the ammonia will be bad... and that's where i'm at...
I need direction now. I have no idea how to go about it all with all the choices. Am i on the right track?
Cheers
Sam
