I was thinking how a drop checker works and how it is a great way to measure Co2 because we measure the CO2 through a reference solution instead of the Aquarium water which may have fluctuating KH and or sources of carbonate that can throw off the PH/ KH relationship. The problem with drop checkers is that it gives you a ballpark idea of how much Co2 you have through subjective interpretation of the colors, also some PH chemicals may be a little different than others and etc.. I'm thinking that by replacing the PH chemical with a PH probe would we not get the best accuracy? Also the probe will last longer/ need less cleaning since it will be isolated from the Aquarium water.

Anyone try anything like this before? Any thoughts?

This idea has been proposed before over at the Planted Tank; I am not sure what came out of it, if anything, but you may want to take a look over there yourself.

I base my co2 off a probe. I keep the probe in the sump all the time.
