As strongly as it reacts with organics I thought it might work as a home made drain cleaner or explode the pipes. But I am going to keep some in a large sealed jar for when I need to stain something pink.

Could It Be Over?

Hi,

Perhaps the great Potassium permanganate shortage of 2010 is near an end.

Early today I saw 5 lb (2.27 kg) bottles of Potassium permanganate in Lowes in Surprise, Arizona, sold in the water softener area as iron filter cleaners. It was about US$ 34.00 for the bottle.

If five or fifteen people went in on a bottle together that would be a couple of lifetime supplies for everyone! :gw

I checked the Home Depot but they didn’t have a clue.

You can get PP from Drs.Foster and Smith via Jungle Oxy Clear. It's pure potassium permanganate.

PP is and has been available on line, it was the disappearance from store shelves that prompted this thread.

I am pretty sure that while the active ingredient in Jungle Clear is PP, it is a very dilute solution.:gw
