Hello folks

I'm planing a new planted 180 and wanted some current advice for my substrate choice. I know a lot of products have come and gone in the hobby so I was hoping for an up to date suggestion on what to use.

In the past I have used Eco-Complete and had a tough time with my stem plants stay put, but I did like that it didn't stir up much when moving plants around. I've also used MTS with a gravel cap and couldn't stand the mess every time I uprooted one of my plants.... it was constantly in my filters and everywhere else.

While doing some research I have also come across some reports that complain about ADA AS breaking down and needing to be replaced after a couple years (this is something I wouldn't want to have to get into with a tank as large as a 180 if I can avoid it). Anyone here experience this?

I'm interested in hearing what everyone has been having success with these days.

Thanks

The new version of aqua soil "powder" doesn't break down. Seachem is also coming out with their competing product (same thing). I doubt it will be any cheaper though.

I've had ADA AS in my 180 since about 2006-2007? Still have it.

I'll replace here in a year or so, so I got about 8-10 years out of it.
