Could using a sponge restrict flow feeding to a pump cause heat to build up? 1100gph pump that's a lot of water being suck into a 1" x 6" intake?

Ink,

You need to clean/rinse the sponge daily or every other at least.

Your pump basically needs more than a 1" line can provide. The expectation (as I understand it) for bigger pumps is that the pipe will be OVERSIZED from the inlet/outlet actual size.

So, having a single 1" pipe as inlet is MINIMUM (IMO) for a 1" pump intake.

This will cause it to run hotter. I bet if you had 2 single 1" intake drains going to a single 1.5 wye and connect the 1.5" wye to the pump, that you would increase flow and reduce heat.

Any restriction on the inlet side of a pump generally makes for an unhappy pump and higher heat. I would not be surprised if an 1100GPH pump heated up noticeably under a starvation condition. OTOH, I've had eheim cannisters "crush" prefilters that were too dirty. Once cleaned they puffed right out again with no flow restrictions. At 1100 GPH through a 1" pipe you're pretty close to the upper limit of what you can do with a 1" bulkhead unless you start upping the pressures.

Will I finely got done redoing my line system all I left wast the elbow with the Wye after the pump. I switch over my plumbing over to braided hose and separated the bottle neck I had after the filters and mazzie and 2.5 hours later a steady 82.2F !!!!!!!!!! I drop 8F by separating the bottle neck.

I will be glad when I wake up in the morning an it stays at 82F , It's a lot better then 90F
I did change my 1x6 intake to 1x3 intake an only one 1" braided hose with a barb ball valve to the pump.

Gerryd I might still take in the a second 1" intake to the pump and use a 1" Wye for hose and remove the Elbow and Wye that's after the pump and use a Hose Wye and run the hose strait into the filter and mazzie?

Ink,

Glad the temp is better! I would expect you will wake up and it be remain cooler.

How is the flow now? It should be better as well.

Can you post more pics and design of your current system and how you want to change it?

Sorry, am a little thick lately.....

Will I hope to get some pic's soon , But still make some changes.
Got a question on my plumbing, Will keeping my 1 inch x 6 inch Inland Screen intake and adding a 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" line to the pump intake still be good enough for flooding the pump?
Or just run a 1 1/2" intake and hose to the pump.

Will here are 2 pic's . The pump pic you can see the red line on how the intake has a long loop an back to the pump. I'm planning on removing the elbow Wye split above the pump an and the green line I'm placing my hose and splitting to ball valves an go strait in to the filter and Mazzie.
The second pic the filter and Mazzie will be move to the left {yellow arrow} and the blue box will be where the pump will be place {more space for the pump to breath} I'm going to change the intake to the pump to 1 1/2" inch braided hose an ball valve and place a ball valve on the output and go strait up to the other side {green line}

So far the temp has been 82F-84F , I hope once I in large the intake that the temp will drop down a little more , I still need to get a lot of plant's my tank still looks bare with only 6 tiny plants an 2 medium plants and I have a algae problem going on I think is Brown Algae but might be wrong.

Working on this project now . I could only use a 1-1/4 inch size tee with my 1 inch intake due to the space between my tank and wall , Just like my 1 inch intake I have now I have a Brass Plug that I use to prime my pump an at the bottom of my tee I put a 1-1/4 to 1 inch mpt bushing and will use a 1 inch to 1-1/2 inch insert and run a 1-1/2 inch hose line to my intake pump.
