Rotala Macandra and temperature

In what way would you notice that is prefers the lower temperature? I've seen plenty of tanks with higher temp. and it grows beautifull aswell, so for me it's sounding alot like one of the many bs myths around 
I don't have a clue why one would say that. I read it in ASW's plantapedia. My tank is usually around 80-82 F because I have rams, so I was wondering if this was true. If it was I would consider not using it in my next scape. I would also like to get it growing well as it is a beautiful plant and also a great canary for problems.
In my observation, R. macranda grows faster when the water temperature is within 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit.
