Due to initial cost I capped my soil/clay/vermiculite, etc substrate with plain old pea gravel from Home Depot. It's been about a year and the gravel is fairly unsightly. I've always like how sand looked and wondered if anyone had any success or ideas with scooping off the top layer of gravel and adding something like Flourite Black Sand? I understand I'm not going to get every pebble but would like to get the bulk of the open areas. I'm piggybacking on Russ' post about Flourite vs regular sand wondering if I should just get a few bags of Playsand and cap the top? Is there any benefit for me using Flourite as the cap?
