Well I won some more Neon Rainbows at Aqua bid. When they come I will have a total of 8.

The tank is 29 gallons 30 in long.
The other fish are 5 Black Neons, 5 Platty and 1 Betta.
How many of the Neon Rainbows can I add to the tank?

If I get rid of the 5 Black Neons how many can I have?

The extra fish I will take to an auction.

Hi,

Tom was just in Australia and these were collected at a location down under!

I would also love to go......

Hilde,

I had about 30 of the neon rainbows in a 40 gal breeder and just a small wet/dry and a bunch of lamp eyes and they all did fine. The rainbows will spawn if well cared for. Put some moss and stuff in there and watch in the morning to see if there is any breeding behaviour of the moss. If so give it a day or so and place the entire moss bunch in a small tank. I got about 10 fry this way that grew to adulthood.

It is very casual and hit or miss, but is a good way to replace any lost.

I know that rainbows are relatively easy to breed based on species.

I would think 15 would not be too many for a 29g. Really depends on adult size.......bigger the fish, the less of them.

Thank you Hilde:):):).. Believe it or not, everything in the tank is plastic. I just didn't have the energy or time for ANOTHER planted tank. As this one is at my workplace and I'm taking care of it, I decided to make it as easy as possible!! lol

I am a rainbwofish nutter, but I would hesitate to say that they are "ideal" for planted fish tanks. I keep and breed over 20 species and while some are fine, many really do have a taste for plant matter and will nip at your softer leaved plants like Downoi, Blyxa japinoca. You can mitigate to a degree by providing plenty of plant matter in thier diet, but not stop it altogether in my experiance.

Still this is what I do, keep rainbowfish in planted tanks :D

I posted these on the UKAPS site, some examples of a few rainbows i keep:

M. trifasciata "Goyder River"

M. splendida rubrostriata

M. inornata "Blyth River"

M. sp. Aru II

I tried to post more, but got an "invalid URL" message :s

Nursie,

My Bosemanai eat duckweed. I have two tanks with duckweed. I skim it out on occassion and put it in the tank with the Bosemanai. It's usually gone in a day or two.
