    Thx Christophe! I'm trying to avoid getting this kind of unit and find the easiest route. I guess I have to face reality to get one. In my city the water is on the hard side

    Hard water in itself is no deal-breaker for a planted tank. Lots of people around here are doing successful tanks on rather hard water.

    yeah I know but there are certain plants thrive more in softer water like Ludwigia Pantanal.
