Hi Everyone,

I wondered if anyone thought about presoaking inert substrate such as turface, ecocomplete or any substrate that has a high cec in nutrients for a couple months to help load it with such nutrients.
since turface and ecocomplete has a high cec I wonder if that would help the substrate retain nutrients to help the plants during initial setting up and planting of a new tank.
If any one has done so or have any suggestions please feel free to share your knowledge.

Whatever was absorbed by the substrate will readily dissolve back into the water column through the diffusion gradient. Thus, there will most likely be excess nutrients in the water column which may cause algae blooms.

As stated above, not much is going to occur here.
EC, flourite etc, they do not have high CEC really.

Wiser to add osmocoat or jobe sticks or top soil etc on the bottom.
