Note gators sitting there

I like it when wind bag arm chair experts on snails somehow know everything about olive nerites and tell me their habitats and requirements etc:

resizedolvivenerites.jpg

Yep, they are the experts.............

Another interesting thing, I did not see any heating cables or powersand the entire time...........

Pretty natural.

Wide range of habitats and many of the same plants.

You need to be on nature and a part of it to understand it.
Photo's , our scapes etc will never do it justice no matter how nice.

Tom Barr

Nothing like Red Ludwigia from the source

Algae ball where you do not have to go to the Japan:

Note: these are marine, there are several species that form balls.

Marine species where easier to find this year

Nice photos - If i had been closer i would have joined you guys.

What is that "foreground" plant you found - it looks like a Marselia to a degree...

It might be a Liliopsis carolina or something.
But it's furry...........

It's much easier, closer(unless you live in Brazil) and faster to get to all these habits than say in Brazil.

awwww.. too bad the singaporean (me) is way too far away to join the plantfest.

Tom,

the umbrella shaped plant below the moss ball.
What is it? Is it a native plant?
looks like a very nice plant for a naturescape.

Thanks to the participants for the photos!! The photos are the only chance ppl like us have to be in touch with plantfest.

Regards,
Ryan

Thats to bad, looks like it would be fun as a foreground plant. Any way it could be propigated in our tanks?

I looked carefully at this pic. What kind of plant is that on the right (the leaf above the water)? It looks vaguely familiar! :D

^ A plant I like to avoid! So that riccia was growing attached to the substrate? Crazy!! Would it sink naturally?

It typically grows floating, they recently had a lot of water, so it's submersed here.

Most wetland plants are adapted to grow both in and out of water.
They are amphibious.

They also are well adapted to take nutrients from the water column and the sediment exclusively or partially.

N is very limiting in many swamps, Utricularia uses carniviory to add N, many use the newly flushed water column to take up N, like mermaid weed and it's far more dissected leaf morphology under low N conditions. There's often very little usable N in many locations.

these systems change throughout the year dramatical and you can observe shifts.
Same is true in the marine environment.

I found riccia a couple of blocks from my home in FL, just in some ditch, and there's another spot where it's been growing for 6 years at least, just some side pond swamp marsh next to some school building not far from where folks stay. Bacopa, and about a dozen others right there.

I am green with envy! More so because this is all at my fingertips. Yet I am not brave enough to go snorkeling in some of the waters you were in{alligators, snakes, etc} Nor do I have anyone that would share my excitement, and go with me. Though..hmm..there is Orlando...:)
May I ask a question? How do you go about cleaning up the plants you find of unwanted critters, larvae..?
The photographs are awesome btw, thank you for sharing.
