    Roughly a 3:1 ratio.
    For me 20ppm Ca & Mg 6-7ppm.
I do remineralize RODI water on occasion.

I have had Ca creap up to 50ppm, then straight RO only.

Not really that important but I'm fairly certain tornado is a ludwigia inclinata variant like pantanal or white (is white actually inclinata, I'm not certain...)
Though seemingly much easier than either... for me anyhow.

It is a varient called tornado or twisted.
I have another ludwigia inclinata that is quite different with no varient name attached.
I'll have to post a pic of it.

I think my 80 gallons of despair journal should really be pictures of an 80 gallon trashcan with all the stems I throw away in a week because I am terrible about actually selling things...

    Good Evening All:

Usual evening here, trim 3 plants which always turns into 6!

The 33G has finally got over the "Hot Soil" phase and really turning into a grower.
Pogo Heidelburg of 10 days old is a foot tall.:D
    [IMG]

Rotala magenta is taking off in this tank now.
It used to get deformed and sit idle for a bit.
Color not as red as it should be but this tank is only 75PAR @ substrate.

A new arrival from Buceplant this week.
Syngonanthus belem, will need to see how this goes.

    Other plants:
Polycarpa has been a big win, nice pink leaves.
Not trying to propagate this just keeping the tops.

Alata is doing well, just cleaned up the last horizontal stems from an air line suction cup this eve.
6 stems in a plug now, time to let it do it's thing.

Persicaria India, I think Vin provided this.
Finally cleaned up, old growth is now trimmed and gone.
Beautiful pink colored 3" leaves, I'll owe a pic on this one.

Star grass??? This one may have to go.o_O
Grows too quick and extremely chaotic!

Enough for today, Morn comes early and I'm tired.

    Night All:

That magenta looks great. I believe its one of those unstable engineered varieties that tends to go to hell for a lot of folks. Tom and Vin both had problems with it iirc. it turns a very dark purple then melts.

Ive got a few that have been hanging around just surviving for a few months. Gonna see how they like the new aquasoil.

How long do stems last in those plugs? And what are they wrapped with inside the pvc?

I need to explore doing something like that

95% of the plugs are ceramic, a few PVC.
A large set of stems may need ceramic and a weight or it'll float.

1/4" thick foam pad to wrap the stems.
4 to 5" long strip wrap around stems.

Most stems root all through the foam and down into substrate.

Originally it was to be a place holder but now there is 150+ plugs everywhere.

    Looking good!

Is that Bacopa Colorata from the stems I sent you? If so, very nice color and looks happy.

And the Buce Catherinae looks stunning. I have never tried any Buce.......but that pic might change my mind.

I'm still awake and WC is done for the 75G now.

Joe and Gregg I appreciate the following of this mess I have.
I really want to clean up my act but still experimenting with several species of plants.
Just not quite ready for the fruit stand! :D

Yes! I think a few more from Joe too. I liked it.
Not a weed but a very good grower.
Branches on it's own, unrelated to trimming this species.
Pics don't do it justice, most tops are a good purple hue.

See what I mean, all these experiments and experiences with new plants.

Have some Erio compressum to arrive this week too.
Need that like a hole in my head.

I don't get out to house of tropicals in glen burnie that much, but they have always sold me stems just like that. wrapped in foam / in ceramic plugs (sometimes with a rock for weight). Did you get the idea from them?

I'm growing out 4 different kinds of erio from seeds, lord only knows what I'm going to do with them.

@Wobblebonk the idea did not start with HOT but yes I have gotten plugged plants from there.

Next tank I may just grow plants in small pots and the hell with a tank full of substrate.
It would just be a grow tank.

    Regarding melting plants.

I think that some plants we get come from such a different environment just fall to pieces.

Recent batch of Heidelberg is going well.
Previous batch dissappeared in under 36 hours. I mean dissolved with no trace left.
I even asked seller for tank parameters and input but never recieved a reply.
Not blaming them just looking for info to resolve my issues.

Some people trim and float it or bag it before it is even sold.
How long do things end up in a bag before shipping?

Agreed I think you and I are a prime example. Very, very different tanks.

Some plants we swap do well, others melt. I am thinking some plants develop differently depending on the environment. And they get used to and adapt to what you provide. Change that drastically and the bottom can drop out quickly.

We were just discussing some L. Cardinalis small form that you sent me. It was huge! Nothing like I have seen from the species. In fact, I thought it must be the regular variety.

Well, it melted, I stuck a few stubs of stems in a few places, and now they have new growth that looks like the small form. They have completely morphed.

    Interesting stuff.
