When my solenoid kicks on, my pH goes from 7.3-7.4 to 6.2-6.3 yet I get no pearling... is this ok? Do I need to drop the pH even more? My KH is 7 so my water is moderately hard...

Pearling will occur if the plants have the fertilizers they need plus CO2. So, what ferts, in what quantities, how often, in what size tank, with how much light do you use?

Re: pH at 6.2 but no pearling...

I use Greg Watson dry ferts...

Nitrates - 1/2 tsp everyday, except Sat...then Sun is 50% waterchange
Phosphate - 1/8 tsp everyday, except Sat...then Sun is 50% waterchange
Potassium - 1/4 tsp everyday, except Sat...then Sun is 50% waterchange
CSM+B - 1/4 tsp everday, except Sat...then Sun is 50% waterchange

I have 320W of AHS power compact lighting on my 100gallon.

Re: pH at 6.2 but no pearling...

Try this: Add:
every other day

3/4 teaspoon KNO3
1/8 " KH2PO4
Off day:
15-20mls Traces.
*1/2 teaspoon MgSO4 once a week

This will address the tank's nutrients.

From there I would add more CO2 *slowly to achieve the desired results.

Also, see about if the lights on and off influence the pH reading/monitor.
Often times the ballast and loights will drop the pH a few .2-.8 pH.

If not Mg, then CO2 basically.

Re: pH at 6.2 but no pearling...

Tom,

I have the dry CSM+B for my trace... how much would be equivalent to 15-20mls? How much would I add to 250ml of water to make a solution? 1.5 Tablespoons??? edit *** used the Nutri-Calc and it gave me 3 Tbsp per 500ml or 1.5 Tbsp per 250ml of water to equal 25ml 3X per week *** edit

Also, if I use Epson Salt until I get my MgSO4 from Greg, how much should I use to get 1/2 tsp of MgSO4? I wasn't sure if the concentration was the same with the ferts vs. the Epson Salt.

Thanks!

Keith

Re: pH at 6.2 but no pearling...

I may be wrong, but Tom is probably using the 1TBL CSM+B/500mL water mix Greg lists on his site. This is the classic CSM+B mix and adds ~.12ppm Fe when dosing 5mL per 20gals.

Epsom's Salt and Greg's Magnesium sulfate should be the same.

Re: pH at 6.2 but no pearling...

I add 2 tablespoons per 500mls of DI water for CMS+B.

MgSO4 is MgSO4.
Assume they are equal.
