Pearling without CO2?

I didn't think it was possible to get much/any pearling without CO2?

My 10 gallon (WIP) with 36 watts of light doesn't have any CO2 yet. But I've noticed a few bubbles stuck to the Cabomba since I added it last week. But tonight I did a small water top off and added my weekly dose of Excel. I started seeing a few large bubbles as I was sitting here surfing. It's a little hard to tell which plant they're coming from, as the bubbles are few and far between. But I think it's coming from the Ludwigia.

Excel is also a source of carbs, so that might be the explanation. When i first added extra lights,i got pearling without Co2... I waited juuuuuuuuust a bit to long with adding enough Co2, and algae came knocking....

Yeah, Excel is supposed to do wonders for algae under the right circumstances.

I've got some green dust in there right now, but nothing else. I just added some Otos and SAEs, as the previous batch moved on to the big tank in the basement.

I've actually got 72 watts over this tank. I was planning to run the second bulb a few hours a day once I get some CO2 and fish sunglasses. :) I'm curious to test the LSI (lumens per square inch) vs WPG (watts per gallon) discrepancy on smaller tanks.

I thought you were kidding about the fish sunglasses until I found this product:

I find the comment about "not driving at night" somewhat interesting. Fish shouldn't be allowed to drive at all in my opinion. :)
