Hi all,

I have one of the Apogee PAR meters with the remote sensor....

I do not use it for long stretches of time between light adjustments and will not need it in the near future as I think I am at a 'good light place' lol

So, I would be willing to ship/lend it to SOME members, or to fish clubs, etc. This is a case by case basis.

I would not like it to be out more than 2-3 weeks and would than like it returned. Just do not send back COD! I feel that is sufficient time but am willing to extend for clubs.

I just ask repayment for the shipping out, take care of it well, and I am unsure about shipping it out of the country.

I will insure it during shipping and ask that others do the same.

I have found it very useful to KNOW the actual PAR values at varying spots in the tank. It is also fun to watch the values rise and fall as the sensor is moved around the tank :)

Interesting to note HEAVY pearling in my tank using Mazzei mist at

Gerry, that's a very generous offer. Things like this make a community out of a forum.

I may have to take you up on it once I have my 48 gal filled; there's some tinkering of light that may be in order. I know of a LFS that may be willing to lend a variety of fixtures for basic PAR comparison tests; all the results would be public.

Most of this would be for the new year, but I figured it was worth saying something now.

Good Idea

Hi Gerry,

You are the nicest guy. :)

I must say the PAR meter is, I think the most astounding. I feel almost silly for having purchased it, but I doubt I could have made the changes without seeing for myself.:)

A great idea, I have seen it tried a time or two, if it works out I have a few pieces of test equipment, I would be willing and able to part with. ;)

I think I would like to see a little more formality. Perhaps we (and when I say “we,” I of course mean you), could figure a way to run this thing and keep track. I think there are probably enough members (subscribers?) to help move various equipment around a given area or region. Some of the equipment I have might take a little serious effort to learn and understand.

In addition, in some cases there are expendables that go along with the actual testing.

ORP meters are good example of something that is cheap to use, but requires an amount of care, in particular the probes. I have two ORP meters and a pen I might well be willing to share with subscribers anyway, if a structure is developed.

I wonder if other members of the esteemed Plant Guru Team might wish to weigh in on this.

I think as a matter of good faith the parties should pay up front for round trip shipping, including insurance as appropriate, easily done with UPS and I think FedEx and any supplies required. :)

Hi Biollante,

IMO I think that each member should manage their own fate and that of their devices.

It seems simpler to me than asking one or several persons to manage this.

This should NOT be centrally distributed model in my opinion. I would not recommend that option professionally........:)

I think your idea of upfront fees is a good one, but is an individual decision :)

If folks want to have others validate them with a PM that would be a nice touch, as I know members know each other and live in the same areas....
