Ok so he moves a bit, but seriously, ive had my oto in my tank for like 3.5 months now and he still seems like he just chills under my wood. I do see him come out at night but when i approach the glass he darts off. Luckily he chills on the wood so i can see him and his stomach is telling me theres plenty to eat. Just wondering if other people who have otos have ever seen this behaviour and if they become more relaxed. I was at Aqua Forest Aquarium yesterday and i saw their oto just constantly grazing in the middle of the tank. I wish i could see mine actually cleaning leaves...

Yes i do only have 1. Its in a 10 gal. I dont want to overload the tank but, would it feel more comfortable with another? I mean they barely add any bioload from what i have seen, but really want to avoid overstocking.

Right now, just 2 sterbai corydoras and like 5 harlequin rasboras. I going to swap out the rasboras for green neons soon though.

You should be fine with 3 more ottos. I saw a ton more movement out mine when I went from 2 to 4 in my 20 gallon. I actually tried to find two more yesterday for the lonely two I have in my 12 long. There is a noticeable difference between the two groups of ottos. They really are social fish.

So then the following is not over stocked for a 10 gallon?:

3x otocinclus
10x Green Neon Tetra
2x Sterbai Cory
4x Amano Shrimp

Seems a bit much imo. Maybe only 8 Green's? Ditch 2 Amanos?

It's actually kinda cute right now since sometimes my oto shoals with my corys. I remember i took out a cory, and then suddenly my other cory just stopped for a few days. When i put him back in, they just nuzzled each other for like an hour.

Thanks!

Hi,

Another thought..If you inject c02 it may be too much for the otto. Ottos are active fish and even if alone should spend their time actively foraging for food. Mine are all over every plant, leaf, etc. They do rest on plant leaves but they should be fairly active during the photoperiod.

You can turn OFF the c02 for one day and observe if they are more active. I have done this in the past and seen an observable difference in fish behavior that led me to either decrease c02 and/or add more 02.

It's definitely not my CO2. I have been running DIY with really low levels for the past 3 months, and since my recent change to pressurized, i have seen no noticeable difference in behaviour. He just loves coming out at night. I hope that adding 1 more will do the trick. I think if i have 3 in my tank, it's just going to get overstocked.

Get to at least 3. I have 5 and they never stop swimming back and forth as a school. It might take time, but they'll make friends, and once they do, they are really neat to watch. You won't regret it.

Note to self: Check to make sure each oto has BOTH eyes before purchasing. fucking jojos.....:p

Having two eyes just gives more time for the hexamita to kick in :D

Hey did those plants die yet? And/or is there still algae on them?
