New tank / when to add fish

I was reading a thread over on the APC forum and I saw a new tank that Jeff Senske had set up (very nice setup) but I didn't notice any fish. He said that he usually adds them around 3 to 4 weeks, sometimes a little sooner and sometimes a little later.

The reasoning was for the tank to cycle, nutrients to stabilize and because Amano says to do it that way.

I was just curious to know if most people set up new tanks that way and if so, why?

Re: New tank / when to add fish

I've never had any issues adding fish that same day, but then again, I use mulm....and do large water changes.......

But Amano and Jeff do large water changes, so I see little reason not to add fish. The only difference is thicker plant growth by then, bacteria, nothing else.

Thanks Tom,

I thought I saw or read where you set up tanks before and added the fish the same day.
