My next step to my redoing my 110g tank is buying pvc pluming parts Like union valve's and Y's and my be Tee's . The system will be for 1 inch line. What I have now is:

1. 1 inch intake screen and 2 - {1 inch to 3/4} Y Split Loc-Line for returns.
2. Blue Line 55 HD Pump {1100gph}
3. Nu-Clear 533 and 547 BIO Filter
4. 584 Mazzie

My next step is to put a Shut-Off Union Valve before and after the Pump and run a Y Split to 2 Legs one to the filters the other to mazzie. This is where I need help? Could 1 Shut-Off Union Valve work before the pump and use just Union elsewhere. I have pic's of the Mazzie setup with a Shut-Off Union Valve to adjust the pressure for the CO2. On the returns should I use a Y split to bring them together and use a Shut-Off Union Valve and another Y split to bring both Legs together ? If you have any PIC'S that would be nice to see. What would you Think.

Ink,

I know I posted specs and pics on a recent thread about my 3 leg parallel setup so look there......

I would advise using ball valves prior and aft of the pump. I would also use them prior and aft of each NC and the mazzei. Also use true unions at each COMPONENT in the system.

The combination of ball valves and true unions allow you to easily and safely remove components for maintenance and or to swap them for other components or simple pvc, if the component is pulled out of the system.

This helped me a lot as I enhanced/modified my system.

I would run each leg outlet to one of your returns. I found that better for flow. Or if a single outlet merge at the last possible place.

You can use fewer unions and throttle valves, but that makes maintenance a bit more of an issue.

Plan it on paper with more or less parts based on your budget and revise as necessary. For example the mazzei needs no maintenance really, so this component would not be swapped out a lot.

At least use a ball valve at the start of each leg to control the flow to that leg and components.

Also see if you can add plumbing to help with water changes or at least draining.

Which NC will go first, the mech or bio?

Hope this helps.

Ink,

As far as I know they do come in plastic. I did not see them at the local store so I got the brass ones.........

I bet a web search would find them quickly............once you know the right size and terminology LOL

Good luck.

Ryan Herco should have it in plastic. They are also a retailer for Mazzie's. I'm sure if you called them with the Mazzei part no and a description of what you want to accomplish, I'm sure they can hook you up. Although brass should work more than adequate for your application.

Thank's I just email the lady that I place my order from and ask if they had a reducer to fit a aquarium air line tubing

I found this pic's of a Mazzie set-up and was wondering does the size of the whole set-up matter.
Does it have to big size or will a small size do the same job in breaking down the co2 bubbles ?

Has any one use the PVC Check Valve's , I was thinking of using a Check Valve after the Merge of the filter's and co2 injector and just before the y split to the 2 returns back to the tank {just want to replace a ball valve at this point}

Yes I have, but as with any check valve, if you are really depending on it to prevent a disaster I would us one of those (sorry I don't know the proper term) double check valve arrangements. The type they use to stop sewage from backing up in to houses would be an example.

This sounds like a point you might wish to access on a regular basis, me, I would stick with the ball valve.

Will I decided to use 2 Wye for the return side of my system. The first will bring both legs together {Filters and the Mazzie } than put a ball valve in the middle and Second Wye to have 2 returns back to the tank ? That should work
