Thanks. Both were taken on my iPhone. The video with the Radion and the pic with the Twinstar. The latter is noticeably brighter and the light much better distributed. Although the pic has been edited slightly to represent what I actually see.

The stems are still doing well, I'm hoping they will colour up more. I've got the light at 80% for 6hrs, which is really pushing the envelope with the relatively small plant biomass I have atm. I'm getting some algae issues, but nothing I can't handle...so far

Also, I thought I'd post a pic of the Aponogeton robinsonii floating var. my Dutch friend from UKAPS gave me, it has really started to take off. It seems to be responding well to the extra light, and CO2 of course. It's a really attractive plant and I can't wait to see it send out floating leaves and maybe flowers :)

Despite the clean up the algae was relentless and came back, and invited all it's friends and relatives too. So I decided to break the scape down and reboot it.

The problem was the DW, it continued to rot and give off organics.

Quick update. Gave the scape a good trim yesterday. The stems have been trimmed several times but this was the first time I've trimmed the MC carpet. The stauro was also looking ropey in places (old emersed leaves hanging on) so that got hacked back as well.
I had to get rid of the male ram, it was bullying the female, and pretty much every fish in the tank, not the most relaxing viewing, and the female was beginning to look drawn and ill. She's recovering still but is looking much better.

Love the scape and the thread! Much prefer this reboot scape to the previous. I'm in the middle of writing a draft for my own tank; it will be an algae journal :D. I'm curious what you've changed in your regimen to fight the algae in regards to dosing/lighting/co2. I've been battling green string/hair/thread/filamentous (not sure which) along with stagorn which I see you've had as well. I've been spending many hours on weekly maintenance as you've had but would like to end the maintenance cycle by figuring out the root cause. Hopefully some of your discoveries will enlighten me.

Also how are you liking the twinstar sterilizer? I have one arriving today. Not sure when the best time to put it in would be.

Thanks, that's nice of you to say so.

I haven't really changed anything in my regimen. The algae was caused by the DW which was disintegrating and increasing the organic load which led to unrelenting algae issues.
The only changes I made were to introduce more media in my filter and to add an Ehiem surface skimmer to get rid of the surface biofilm and increase gas exchange and O2 saturation. Both will help break down organics.

I've been using the TwinStar now for a couple of years, and I think it goes some way to reducing green algae, that is coupled with good housekeeping. But the main benefit is an increase in the O2 saturation.

Things have moved on a little since my last update...

For one thing Scruffy the cat has been banned from the study...he's been causing too much mischief...

I've swapped out the Alternanthera reineckii 'Mini' for Ludwigia 'mini super red'; much better sense of scale.

I've also had to get rid of the Rams, a shame but they were fighting all the time, not very relaxing...

An in situ shot for the heck of it...

As it is now, the plants have been growing like crazy. The stems have to be trimmed every two weeks...

Just out of curiosity, what temperature is your water? I never had luck with rams for very long at temps under 80F

My water is around 23°C, cool for Rams but then they're captive bred and probably raised in relatively cool and hard water.

Okay interesting, I liked the initial scape but the overgrown look gives it a mature look, really nice. I was pondering on going with a twinstar light myself, but the lack of customization annoys me.

lovely scape. . Twinstar Star can be customized too for 24/7 settings. . There is a small controller which Juris revealed in YouTube. Even I use it. Works like gem with no issues( using it on my own risk). It’s available in amazon.
