I've just discovered a very strange white growth on one of my plants. Although I have never had BGA the texture and form looks like it but it's pure white, almost like a fine cobweb (spiders web). A piece broke free in a minor water current and looked just like egg white. Any ideas guys?

Glad to hear it, Ian...I was going to propose that what you're seeing is
agregate dead skin cells from a mutant something-or-other, getting into the
tank somehow :D

For what it is worth, when I attacked my cynobacteria with an antibiotic it turned white and thinned out before disapearing.
