It's possible. My tap water has equally high sulfates. I can grow many plants but Rotala and Ammannia struggle. It may not be due to the sulfate exclusively, but it's probably not ideal.

Theoretically, excess sulfur can interfere with nitrogen absorption, but I suspect sulfate levels would have to be much higher for that to occur.

Completely agree, it's just a possible factor.
Interestingly I had another tank where I also used tap water and the golden nesaea grew very well. even ludwigia senegalensis, ammania gracilis and other plants that I can not maintain in my main tank.
    The parameters were very similar:
    - Tap Water
    - Garden Soil
    - Same fertilizers (kno3 + kh2po4)
    - Co2

I guess, the only difference was the intensity of the lighting (I used less).

If everything was the same, except light, then it indicates that the lower light reduced the speed of metabolism and consumption of CO2 and nutrients. Everything the plants need are present. Lower light usually means plants get all the CO2 they need.

Ironically, I have a tank where I cannot stunt any Ammannia or Rotala. I set up this soil/dirt tank a month or two ago. Everything grows. Nothing stunts. No fertilizer. No CO2. No water change.

I'll post more details in my Kill Tank journal one of these days when I find the time.

I found this text while looking for information about the assimilation of nitrogen and I found it quite interesting, especially for those who use kno3 as the main source of Nitrogen.

So, if I only use kno3 as a source of Nitrogen and the water I use is high in sulfates, can I have a molybdenum deficiency?

Can you see the improvement or am I going crazy?
In just 2 days I have seen some improvement.

Definitely some growth there. Real problem is the growth of the algae.

Is this plant and picture from the tank posted above?

So I'm not going crazy, hahaha.
Yes, it's the same tank, but I do not worry about the algae, this is one of the few plants that have a green dot in their leaves and the main reason is that they have not grown for weeks.
My main concern was to grow those stunted stems.
I used Flourish and since then the improvement was seen.
