What and where do you find the metal poles/bars i've seen many people use to hang their light fixtures from?

I've seen many in the pictures Tom B has posted.

Thanks!

There are also those copper ones that are used for chill water pipes, or more typically thin SS pipes.

I personally have no issues finding the pipes, but a heck load of trouble trying to find the correct person with the tools to bend it for me at a reasonable price.

I ended up using 2 pvc pipes bent using a heat gun into a "reflex bow" shaped post and shoved it into my wrought iron stand. Less than $10 inclusive of SS cables and spray paint!

The steel 1/2" and 3/4" pipe at Home depot for electrical conduit as mentioned are what I use.
A pipe bender, some paint, you are done.

Another way is if you want to buy a bender, they sell the 90degree elbows and the connector with a set screw. They are the right size so that all you have to cut the length of pipe for the height and use the connector to connect the elbow, then I use another connector at the end of the elbow over the tank. The connector comes with two set screws. Mount the connector upright with the screws facing up and you have a non slip place to hang the wire from.

You can buy the bender, save the receipt, then return in almost new shape for a full refund.
Some folks bend the pipe right there at home depot or have the staff do it quick for them if they are nice to them and act pitiful:)

Then it's free.

I need to get to this project as i'm not super stoked about the screws in the ceiling.

Did this after having trouble finding a tool/guy to bend a metal pipe for me.

Heres mine(cost about USD$7 and 1.5 hrs of my time):

I chose this "reflex bow" design so that it compensates the normal flexing that pvc experiences under load. Planning to refine the top portion, or even the entire stand when I have more time, rather crude now but needed to lift the light off the tank quite urgently. Also aim to hang my fan from the light eventually. Consider this V1...

15mm dia. 9' PVC pipe: $6
1mm dia. SS cables/clips: $3

Spray paint: Optional
Heat Gun: Borrowed from a friend
Sticky tape and drill are my own

You can do wonders with PVC and a heat gun!

Pardon the condition of the tank, trying to house some aggressive apistos, tending to severely malnourished celestial pearl danios, moving hiding spots and scaping all at the same time!
