Hi, I have a ~20 gal really long tank made from plexiglass. It is 50" x 7"W x 12"D. There is a slate bottom but no substrate. Stem plants are weighted down. Some do really well (R. indica; Myriophyllum guyana), some not so much. Kinda an experiment. Shrimp, various nano fish, lots of snails. PPS-Pro ferts.

    CO2 injection.
Eheim 2017 filter (at full throttle)
4' Current USA 48"-60" Satellite Plus PRO LED Light.
    kH: 4
    gH: 8
    pH: 7.0
CO2: ~20 ppm based on indicator

I used PPS Pro before I began injecting CO2.
NO3 always dropped to zero very quickly for me after pressurized CO2 introduction.
I had to move to a modified EI recipe to keep the water column @ levels I liked.

A lower KH will always help, never zero but 1.0 dKH or a bit less.

Most will target a 1.0 drop in pH which is roughly equivalent to 30ppm CO2.
Meaning that during lights on pH would be around 6.0 if 7.0 is your de-gassed pH reading.
