wow he looks great here is a pic of my male 'viejita'

are you feeding anything special to help bring out the colors?

Not sure whether that is a male, my guess is that's a female, and most probably not a viejita but a macmasteri... Good food, soft water and breeding are the three things that brings out most color.

I figured it was sold to me as the wrong name and that's the female? The male is a little larger then with orange on his fins and changes color a lot I often see his anywhere from almost white to nearly black? He is often hiding in the back in his log while the female plays in the sand. They definitely flash each other but I can't seem to tell who is dominant as the one you say is a female chases the other away. I have ocean nutrition cichlid pellets but mostly feed frozen blood worm and daphnia but I'm looking into maybe grindal worms?



Here is a pic of the other one I have, do you think he is the male?
