Well, it is titled "Link page from Hell". :)

BTW - I only tried a few but most of them did not work for me either.

    Re: Link page from Hell

A lot of them are gopher links ... gopher is a protocol that we used before the http protocol essentially took over the web ...

Unfortuantely ... a LOT of servers/firewalls have the gopher protocol blocked (It's often the default setting in several new installations) ... so for example, right now I can't get to any gopher sites through my firewall ... however, most of the gopher links are still active...

And ... gopher sites are disappearing rapidly as many of them get converted to the www ...

If you want to know what the world wide web was before there was a world wide web ... gopher was a big part of it ... but in most cases, you have to be an old geek like myself to even know about it ...

    Re: Link page from Hell

I suspect the problem is that many of the links are broken. I can access most of the pages where the links appear to be complete. Unfortunately, many of them (including all the gopher links and some of the http links) have "...", which suggests to me that the full address is not there (perhaps cut and pasted as text from another resource without getting the entire address?).

Can someone check please (coz this looks like a great resource otherwise).

    Re: Link page from Hell

If you can show me a couple links that you think are broken I'd be glad to check them out ... If its a gopher link I can also verify that they are simply working correctly, but a lot of people have firewalls that prevent them from utilizing the gopher protocol ...

    Re: Link page from Hell

    Hi Greg,
Here's an example I found through trial and error.

The link on the above list is as follows but goes to a 401 error page:

The 401 error page is because the address isn't right. The "...r" is meant to be "literatr", but wasn't pasted properly into html.

The full link, I think, should probably be the following (which works):

Edit: I know the above links look the same here, but they're not the same and you'll see when you click on them that one has the full web address and the other not (you can also see the difference in the status bar of Internet Explorer).

Don't have time to see if I can work out all the others but hopefully you have the original list of links (in their entirety) somewhere.

    Hope that helps.
