Hello, i have a question about a future idea (for me) for lighting my tank.
currently my tank lights come on at 8, and turn off at 6, but because i have school from 9-3 i can only see my tank with lights on for 4 hours a day.
would it negatively affect my fish/plants if i turn on my lights at 8 (or 7:30) until 9 (so i can feed my fish, and see everything in the morning) then again from 3 - 10 (or 8, if 10 is too long for them to be on)?
i have a window in the room with the tank, and the window lets in a decent amount of light (unless it's dark outside
) so even though the lights go out, there would still be light in the tank.
on my 20 gallon tank i have a T5HO light
on my 55 gallon tank i have a dual T8 diamond plated fixture from home depot, giving about 40 PAR at the substrate (http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/showthread.php?t=184368) because it is raised.
I am getting a CO2 tank tomorrow, and am hoping to have it set up (well, tomorrow, but more likely...) by next week. on my 55. both tanks are heavily planted.
the fish in the tanks are mostly guppies, most of which are fry.
i'll take all the advice you guys are willing to give! you seem like a very friendly group
