In the past i used co2 reactor , but i loose one filter when electricity went off, and co2 went to my filter.

    Impeller destroyed...

So now i use a reactor in the outlet of filter, make small bubbles, and not afraid for filter again.

I dont use airstone or something else, just filter surface movement, and 24h co2.

You have open tanks Nic, right? That also helps with degassing and gas exchange a big deal...

Sorry for the delayed updates.. been busy here sorting personal stuff out related to my father..

OK my plan was to start planting the tank at the weekend but it seems new tank syndrome has started, i.e diatoms etc so I'm going to wait that out and then start planting, on another note it's now fully cycled so I added 30 Amano Shrimp that I had ready for this tank, also planned are, black rose shrimp, bristle nose plecs, Siamese algae eaters and Otto's for the cleanup crew.

A while back I did mention that im not sure if I'm going to add any other livestock but I keep thinking about it so I'm open to suggestions..

Has anybody had any issues with Congo tetras and plants?

Congos eat shrimp. They might be a bit large also

Thanks Tom being honest I never thought About the Shrimp

I'm looking for something bigger than Cardinal, Ember etc possibly red phantom or slightly larger that will work with a planted tank.. and shrimp :)

Also contrast with a black background.

Small update as I plan on getting this going soon, been busy with the site etc :)

I've decided to use the inert substrate in my shrimp tanks etc and go for a aqua soil, having already used ADA amazonia that is proven for growing plants but for me I had a big problem with it breaking down as already mentioned in previous posts.. I have decided to try Calaqua Black Earth Premium Substrate

    http://calaqualabs.com/blackearthpremium/

I have read really good reviews but as for long term who knows? We will fine out :)

The soil claimed that it could not be crushed :) well.. I can confirm I tried to crush it with my fingers and it just left a dent without being crushed. I'm impressed.

    Soil added..

    2017-07-22 16.36.18.jpg

    And tank planted..

The soil also claimed that it was dust free and clean, well the photos below were taken about one hour after fill and planting.. again I was impressed as ada took me at least two days.

It's easy to forget what plant is what?

I use a magnetic white board to help me remember :). For a show tank this would be a eye soar but in the garage it's very handy.

    2017-07-22 16.51.23.jpg

And a random shot of some Fissidens sp. "Miroshaki" Miroshaki moss..

    2017-07-22 16.49.05.jpg

At This time most plants are Emersed grown and Note that some plants are half stem rescues.. and I'm hoping I can turn them around.

Also the layout is not final, I will uproot and reposition them in a few weeks+

More plants will be added as and when I get them.

Jason, the substrate looks great indeed! And I like the position of the plants (and the idea to use a white board to remember their positions!). I will keep following....

Small update to give you some information about the cal aqua black earth premium Substrate..

    100% Tap = 7.2
    With substrate = 6.42
    After co2 = 5.26

Tank is still crystal clear even after water changes and uprooting to replant the tops of the the weedier plants also removing the older Emersed forms..

Half of the tissue culture Ammania sp Bonsai has melted but strangely this also happened to me with ADA AS? What causes this?

The small amount of s.repens I have in this tank seems to be growing fine but with the ADA AS it was the only other plant I had melt problems with.

Rotala Butterfly acted really strange, at first I thought it was dying.. but now has new growth with much larger less deformed leaves

Not the best pics.. but for reference on 8 days?? growth

    Day one.. July 22nd
    2017-08-04 08.28.48.jpg

Day 8 July 30th during water change..
    2017-08-04 08.27.57.jpg

I'm away for a few weeks leaving Everything on auto.. so ill get some more pics on growth once I'm Back home :)
