Is it safe to mix a substantial amount of Excel into the macros solution ??

I know that this has been treated before, but I wonder if someone has used with success a mix of KH2PO4, KNO3 and a substantial percentage of Seachem Excel, say 70% of RO/DI water and 30% of Excel as a basis to disolve the ferts. I read in another post that one user reported a color change in the solution, but in this case was the micros solution not the macros.

Best regards,
Daniel

Many use Excel or Gluteraldehyde in stock solutions to block the growth of fungus. I mix enough to make up ~2/3 daily dose for my auto dosing setup in a CO2 injected tank. I don't see a problem with adding more as long as the dosed amount doesn't exceed safe Excel dosing levels. I have no idea the effect it would have on solubility.

So you are adding about an amount of Excel about 10% of the total volume of your stock solution, aren't you ? I'm happy to hear that this work for you, because I do not want to go much further than that.

I usually make up a two month supply for my auto dosing system.

Solution 1
12 g CSM+B
6 g 10% DTPA
2 g MnSO4.H2O
43 g K2SO4
840 ml Metricide (glutaraldehyde)

Solution 2
42 ml Fleet Enema (sodium phosphate solution)
62 g K2SO4
840 ml RO water

The iron and phosphate are kept apart because otherwise a black mucky iron phosphate results; the potassium sulfate dose is split up because at 20C it is only soluble in water at 111g/l; and the glutaraldehyde keeps mold away from the solubilized iron. I don't dose nitrate because I have a heavily stocked tank with levels measured with a calibrated LaMotte test kit at 20-40 ppm - for what that's worth (IMHO - not much).

12 ml/day of each is metered with an Aqua Medic Auto Doser into my 7gal/day (6%) automatic water change system.

IMHO, glutarldehyde remains stable when mixed with any combination of the adds I use.

I'm using 25 mL Excel in my 1 L stock solutions, both macros and micros.
