Greeting from Birmingham, Alabama. I'm Jon and I've been keeping fish keeping fish seriously for about 30 yeara but this is my first real attempt at a planted aquarium. The aim for this tank is not to have a Dutch or Amano styled tank, bit simply to provide a more natural, balanced environment for the fish, shrimp, snails, etc. Please feel free to respond with help/constructive criticism.
Tank: 38 gal.bowfront, set up in August of 2017 (well established at this point)
Filters: 2 Marineland Penguin 200B. Additional filter slots filled with Ehiem peat balls
Lighting: Finnex Planted+ 24/7 SE and Finnex Fugeray Planted+. Both with 660nm red led's .
CO2 with 5lb tank using Aquaristik SR dual stage regulator. Really pleased with this reg btw.
Ferts: Nilocg DIY EI ferts. Macros 2× a week, Micros 2x a week. Also Osmocote+ capsules every 4 months.
Water Changes: 20gals once per week.
Substrate: Regular cheap aquarium gravel from a big box store.
Livestock: 8 juvenile Anomalachromis thomasi (West African Butterfly Cichlid), 16 Moenkhausia pittieri, 2 Corydorus julii, plus 6 Nerite snails ans a few Amano shrimp.
Plants: Amazon swords, Rotala sp, 3 different Crypts, Red Tiger Lotus, Micro Sword, Dwarf Saggittaria, Ludwigia splendens, Bacopa carolinia, Anubias barteri, Java Fern Wendelov, Lobealia cardinalis, Staurogyne repens, Alternanthera reineckii mini, Anacharis. (Not so good with the plant namea yet)
    and..... Assorted algae.
