If Only I Could Read...

Hi,

Good to hear. :gw

If we are good, not that I would ever qualify , can we get autographed first editions?

Good luck on the endeavor.

It'll be a good sized book. Shaun asked me and we got talking, he wants to do a good sized plant species listing similar to Kasslemann, but we are thinking of adding much more to it.

Self publishing vs going with a publisher is another issue.
I'd rather have a nice publication, wide distributorship vs the $.

I'll likely do the other 1/2 of the book, so lots of pretty pics and photos of plants..........as well as how to grow them, test hypothesis, how to practice scaping etc.
We can put whatever we choose in there really.

Regards,
Tom Barr

Sounds good, I would seriously consider buying it mostly for the half which you'll be writing since as far as the listing of plants Kasselmann is widely availible here (especially if you can read German).

Sounds like a nice filling of the gap there is now. There's Kasselmann for the lists, Amano for the pictures, etc but no real book I know of that has both subjects connects them by explaining in detail how to grow the plants properly.

Tom,

Best of luck to you. I know it will turn out well and be informative and current...

I am in for a copy...

BTW, if you need a proof reader (Immennet? :) ), Nipat can help. I bet you used the spell checker lol

Sounds good Tom.

There are good books with lists of plants like books from Kasslemann.
But a book with more info about how to grow them would be great.
How much light each specie needs etc. would be a great buy.

I would love a copy on my shelf.

A ebook version for a ipad or iphone would also be nice.

Well, there are FAR more plants these days than back when she wrote it, and getting flower pics for each species will be helpful, Shaun is good with keys and ID taxonomy of plants.

So it's time to do a good update of these plants in one volume.
So it'll not be cheap I think. But..........better that than something less useful.

Hi Tom,

I already like it. I'm sure it will be one of the best books around. I'm in for an autographed copy too. :)

Ofcourse :) - She did do a renewing of the book in 2010 tho the new copy of Datz-Atlas Aquarienpflanzen describes roughly 450 species. I'm sure alot more can still be added

Well, I thought of something:

Don't do the plant listing, Lots of online plant listings can be found. Just write the book about how to grow them, CO2, algae, current, O2, sediment, light and all the relationships etc etc.

But I'll buy it anyway :)

T-Taxa--Taxo--Taxomonol--&^$%^# Oh Phooey---A Guide to Plants Types...

Hi Tom Barr, Dutchy,

I disagree with the much smarter, though not nearly as good-looking as I, Dutchy. :)

I think there is a place for a comprehensive guide to aquatic and bog plants for the hobbyist, true there are many internet resources, but so many are hit or miss, many with questionable (at best) sourcing. :)

May I also recommend Nipat as technical editor and/or proofreader. As he is Immennet(ly) :p qualified.

Since this tome is (I assume) digitally produced, I suggest a subscription access service to the plant guide. It also becomes a relatively easy index to keep updated for future publications.
