on my planted aquarium, my fish are starting to get ich, I've been using tap water for my water changes, and my concern is this: 20 ppm nitrate straight from the tap. I do have a RODI unit, would it hurt my plants (substrate is eco complete under 6 months old) to run straight rodi water until I get the ich under control?

Why?

Hi Reed,

I am not sure I understand the tap water connection; I am assuming Hamilton, Ohio’s water is microbiologically safe:02.47-tranquillity: even though I cannot seem to access the water quality report.:(

The “request for bottled water” button does raise a red flag or two.

Straight RO/DI water is not good for most living things…

Filling the tank with a 100% RO/DI water will be very bad for your fishes. Ich is a parasite and fishes are more sensitive to it when temperature is too low or drops suddenly (be careful with water changes), and also when they are stressed. I do not know of any correlation between nitrate and ich. Also, UV filtration is not likely to help unless contact time of the water with UV light is quite long.
