I want to have these light hanging over my aquarium...

I don't really care what it looks like I just want these to hang, rather than be in an enclosed canopy.

I guess I can just do the conduit bar thing? I was just thinking I could drill holes in the bar and zip tie it to the bottom of my stand.

What would be the best way to remount the bulbs and ballasts? Maybe a thin sheet of plywood hanging from the light bars?

What do you guys think?

You can look at Vaughn's hood and also my conduit bar.
They make specific conduit holders, you'll need 3-4 for each bar and mount these on the stand below.

I'll find it. So conduit holders. Okay. I think I'm going to do it this weekend. What about adjusting the height of the lights? I'd rater not have to lift the whole fixture up and down. Is there a commercially available system to crank the lights up and down?

I used wire and then a small wire stopper, basically a cylinder with 2 holes that you can pinch the wire using screws.

I think I'm going to end up hanging them from the celling. I'm going to take the bottom part of the canopy off and just use the wire and some eye bolts to hang them over the tank. What's a good way to adjust the height? The way the tank is situated to move it out of the way for scaping I may just use another eyebolt and a clasp and have it closer to the wall. What did you use to adjust the height of the lights?

Pretty ghetto, but it works. I wonder if the light levels are lowers since its higher than before? Probably not much if any.

I can't adjust the height, but it looks high enough to do maintence with ease. I guess I'll find out soon . I didn't catch the meaning of Tom's post till now, but it wouldn't be too hard to fix.

Sorry i didnt catch the post sooner but for the height issue i used chains. You can go a link at a time. I got the decorative stuff from the hardware store and used some shackles to attach it to the light. Its a breeze to adjust if you're not sure what the initial height should be.

You could build a frame around that hanging fixture with 1X4's and it would hide the lights themselves better. Also, you could reduce the size (cut of the edges) of the piece of wood you are using already. I plan to do the same on my tank.

Its in my room so no one really sees it, and I kinda like seeing the reflectors. If I had more money and time I'd make it nice, but I just wanted something quick and easy.
