Anyone that's ever owned a Lily pipe set or some of the glassware for CO2 etc, you know they get dirty and look no better than any other tubing/return etc.A simple way to clean it very well is simply place in boiling water for 1-2 minutes.
Allow to cool for 5 minutes, return. Some have added things like sodium percarbonate or vinegar to the boiling water to help clean or whiten etc, but the heat alone does the trick very well.
For smaller stuff, microwave and a cup etc does the trick. For return tubes etc, hot water loosens the dirt/algae/bioflim really well and then the tubing is very malleable afterwards.
Hot water also works very effectively for spot treatments on equipment during a water change or rocks etc.

If you have a source of hot water= free.

Good to know. I was going to buy the ADA cleaner, but it sounds like you just saved me some money. Thanks!

Vinegar works well... especially for cleaning equipment from saltwater systems.

If you use Hot boiling vinegar, this works even better, all cleaners work better the hotter they are in general.
Vinegar is organic and breaks down into CO2, so the residuals are non toxic organics.

Ive always used alcohol and salt, few minutes of swishing around in a zip lock, and its spotless, alcohol evaporates clean as well, but i usually rinse it afterwards.

I would not pour hot boiling water on my ADA glass lily pipes that's $175 each. I would rather wait and let the bleach clean it. Any discoloration of the glass CLR works great.

Did this a couple years back religiously every 2 weeks on my glass diffuser for 1.5yrs. I boiled in diluted Bleach water and then a followed up with final boul in Seachem Prime water.

I outlined my method back then on PT.net, but I guess the masses were scared :) never really saw anyone mentioned using It. This is the closest process I've seen.

from my iP 5 via Tapa.

Lot of work mrkookm, the things are fragile and removing and reinstalling is a PITA.
I use the method more for items I can remove easily or for a photo event/open house etc.
I have the Mame overflow and a hot water teakettle that pumps out 180F water.

That removed the funk inside better than anything.
Also, heat increases the ability of any and all cleaners.

Yes, 99.99% of any idea on the forums are not original, they might be a mix of 2 or more, or a rehash.
Example EI is hardly my idea, I just argued for it.

Sometimes good ideas get over looked and deserve to have them pounded back into the threads and forums:)
