Sorry I had a slight mis spelling and couldn't correct it all.
It is nitrate.
I discovered the problem......I was away for a week so the tank was low on NO3.....while away I picked up a bunch of stem plants...not having a lot of time I just placed them in the tank.....nitrates went through the roof....the plants were wrapped in a cloth that I assume was soaked in ferts.....leeched into the water and bang I get the high reading.. I have now removed the cloth and planted the plants properly...NO3 levels are dropping.
