    Hello!

I have been a long time lurker here. I have learned so much from everyone here that I decided to finally sign up!

Here is a pic of my 6g tank. I just changed my substrate to BDBS with Osmocote Plus and I love it. This tank gets EI dosing with pressurized CO2. I can't wait until these plants fill in again. Hoping to carpet the whole center section with S. Repens. Suggestions are welcome!

    Thanks for having me!

Looks like you are off to a great start! What lighting are you using?

    Thanks guys!
I have a Finnex 24/7 SE at 50% intensity. I'm still messing with the settings to dial it in just right to maximize growth without growing algae. Wish I had a PAR meter. Lol.

    Welcome.
If you are doing EI I would recommend staying away from osmocote.

Hmmm, okay. I'm thinking at this point I would rather tone down the water column dosing then. I didn't use gel caps so it would be a major pain to get the Osmocote out of the substrate. Are you thinking that a toxicity is possible?

Thanks dimmer! I'm hoping to keep it that way.

Not about toxicity. Osmocote IME and confirmed by others is not linear in how it releases nutrients. Almost everyone gets a Nitrate spike and this lasts weeks. And the phosphate also stays high for a long time after that.

I understand the need of root tabs in inert substrate but I will avoid it going forward.

Thanks for the heads up. How much should I cut back to mitigate this issue?

Just dose 1/2 EI or less and change dose as per plant needs. If you have a test kit, testing mid week is not a bad idea
