    Hi all,

I'm a newcomer to the hobby, in the middle of cycling my very first tank! I've learned a great deal from lurking here over the past few weeks, so hopefully I won't mess it up too badly.

I've attached a pic. I'm on day 2 - still a bit cloudy and some diatoms are popping up, but otherwise so far so good. I'd love any comments or suggestions on my aquascape.

Anyway, thanks to all of you for providing such a great community.

55 gallon tank, Amazonia substrate, manzanita and rocks I found at the beach. I got the tank and filter for free, so I splurged a bit on everything else.

    Plants:
    Ludwigia red
    Java fern (thin leaf)
    Belem hairgrass
    Alternanthera Reineckii mini
    Hydrocotyle verticulata
    Tiger lotus (back right corner)
Amazon sword (behind the big rock)
    Anubias nana

Probably went a bit overboard in plant variety for a first tank, but what the heck. There were just too many great ones to pick from!

    Light is a Finnex Planted+ 24/7s

(I found the rocks at the beach, not the manzanita - I got the manzanita from blooms-and-branches ;) )

You should have just collected it locally, it's all over in Marin. Same with cool rocks.
I lived there for 20 years.

Word of advice given you have ADA aqua soil it looks like,: water changes, like 50-90% every 2-3 days for a month or so. That and good CO2.

    Thanks Tom!

I actually tried to gather some Manzanita locally, only to discover that's it's illegal to do it basically everywhere. If you know a place where I can do it legally, please let me know - I'd love to get my hands on some more!

Thanks for the advice - this is pretty close to what I wound up doing. I've attached a pic of my tank one month in.

As an aside, does Amazonia have adequate iron in your opinion? My red flame sword and alternanthera have pretty good color, and my hygrophilia sunset is nice and pink, but my ludwigia repens is still mostly green. I'm running a Finnex planted+ 24/7 and about two bps of CO2.
